Specialized special ed school in Wallingford CT founded 1967 serving grades 2-12 with expertise in autism and developmental disorders
Founded in 1967 by Amy Lettick, a mother and educator, Benhaven School was created to serve children whose disabilities prevented them from receiving appropriate education in existing schools. Originally a day school, the institution has evolved over decades to offer specialized residential services, vocational training, and adult day programs. With a total enrollment of 36 students in grades 2 through 12, Benhaven has developed unique expertise specifically in supporting students with autism and pervasive developmental disorders.
The school's mission is to enable individuals with autism and related disorders to participate fully in community life, exercise control over their own lives, and build meaningful relationships. Benhaven focuses on helping students achieve gainful employment, personal satisfaction, and happiness through intensive, individualized support. The co-ed environment and small group size allow for deep, personalized attention tailored to each student's specific needs and learning style.
As a nonsectarian institution with rolling admissions, Benhaven is dedicated to addressing critical issues impacting services for the autism community. Families seeking specialized care for children with autism or developmental delays are encouraged to contact the school directly at (203) 793-1905 or visit their website to learn more about their comprehensive programs and residential options.
