Cooke Transitions

New York, New York+1 646-273-5555

NYC independent school in East Harlem and SoHo serving grades K-22 with 4:1 ratio, neurodivergent profiles, and 7-pillar holistic education

Founded in 1987 by parents, Cooke School and Institute serves over 280 students ages 5–21 with neurodivergent profiles and mild to moderate cognitive or developmental disabilities across East Harlem and SoHo campuses. Guided by the motto "Independence through education," the school envisions a world where all individuals with disabilities are valued community members leading purposeful lives.

With a 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio and class sizes of 8–12, Cooke provides comprehensive academic programs aligned with New York State standards and its signature 7-pillar approach to holistic development. The school integrates specialized therapeutic services—including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and social skills groups—throughout the daily curriculum. The East Harlem campus serves grades K–12, while the SoHo campus hosts the Cooke Transitions program for ages 18–21, formerly SKILLs, focusing on vocational training, internships, and community integration.

Accredited by NYSAIS through 2030 and registered with the New York Board of Regents to award state diplomas, Cooke maintains a nurturing, inclusive environment. Approximately 65% of families receive financial assistance, and the school offers year-round support through Summer Academy and After School programs. For specific tuition details and admission inquiries, families are encouraged to contact the school directly at (646) 273-5555.
