Learning Zone (Real Life Colorado)

Learning Zone, the flagship program of the nonprofit Real Life Colorado, provides a specialized CDE-approved day treatment setting for students in grades K through 8. The program is specifically designed to empower and support individuals who are non-speaking or limitedly verbal, offering a community that connects students to the essential resources needed for full and healthy lives. While the program serves grades K-8, preferential admissions are available for students in grades K through 6.

The school distinguishes itself through total immersion in an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) environment. In this setting, students who use communication devices are surrounded by peers and staff who actively model and honor their unique way of communicating. This AAC-centric approach ensures that every student's voice is recognized and supported within the classroom.

The curriculum integrates academics with essential therapeutic supports, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), occupational therapy, and speech therapy, alongside instruction in life and independent-living skills. Learning Zone serves students with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, cognitive impairments, and complex communication needs. By partnering with families, school districts, and human services agencies, the program works to maximize each student's academic and life experiences.
