Life Skills Academy is a special education school in Sandy, UT specializing in transition services for students aged 18-22.
Life Skills Academy (formerly Canyons Transition Academy) provides essential transition instruction and supports for students aged 18 to 22 who have completed their high school senior year. Designed specifically for students whose IEP teams have determined a need for continued services, the academy focuses on developing skills necessary for success in classroom, community, and vocational settings.
The curriculum emphasizes independence through hands-on learning, including job coaching for paid and unpaid work experiences, travel training on public transit, and self-advocacy training. Students can engage in specialized classes such as Career Exploration, 3D Printing, Hydro Farming, and Student Leadership. A key component of the program is Community Access Day every Tuesday, where all students participate in community-based learning to practice real-world navigation and social skills.
To support a holistic developmental approach, the academy features a multidisciplinary team including certified teachers, para-educators, speech-language pathologists, school counselors, psychologists, and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Additional therapeutic supports such as occupational therapy and adapted physical education are also available. The program operates Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
