Miami Learning Experience School in Miami, FL, offers K-12 special education, life skills, and vocational training
Since 1977, Miami Learning Experience School has provided a nurturing, individualized environment for children and adults with developmental disabilities. The school maintains an exceptional 5:1 student-to-instructor ratio for K-12 programs and a 10:1 ratio for adult programs, with all teachers being Florida State certified in Exceptional Student Education (ESE).
The curriculum emphasizes functional life skills and community integration through Daily Living Skills training in a residential-style setting—featuring a functional kitchen, laundry, and bedroom—and Community Based Instruction (CBI) at local businesses. For older students, programs include vocational training, job coaching, and the Shannon Adult Program, focusing on independent living and employment. Students also participate in an Interactive Fine Arts Program and the Special Olympics.
Academic Service Plans (ASP) are updated four times annually to ensure alignment with student needs and family collaboration. The campus features interactive Promethean Boards. Additional services include before/after school care, summer camps, and enrichment programs. Over 55% of students receive financial aid, and the school participates in the Step Up for Students (FES-UA) scholarship program.
