New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NMSBVI) is a specialized state school dedicated to supporting students with visual impairments across New Mexico. The school offers a comprehensive range of services, including a residential program for students who live too far to commute daily, academic support on campus, and statewide outreach programs designed to assist students within their local school districts.

NMSBVI provides highly specialized instruction and therapeutic services tailored to the unique needs of each student. Programs include developmental support and assistance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure students can navigate both academic and daily life challenges. With campuses in both Alamogordo and Albuquerque-which houses an Early Childhood Program-the school is accessible to families throughout the state.

As a state-funded institution, there is no tuition for eligible students. Eligibility is based on a diagnosed visual impairment that impacts a student's ability to learn in a traditional classroom setting. Placement and specific supports are determined collaboratively between the school and the student's IEP team to ensure the most effective educational environment.
