The New York Institute for Special Education (NYISE) is a state-funded, nonprofit special education school serving K–12 students in the Bronx with blindness and visual impairments, learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral needs, and developmental delays. With an average class size of just 6 students and 27 classroom teachers for 90 total students, NYISE provides highly individualized instruction and support tailored to each child's needs.
NYISE offers specialized programs for students with visual impairments, learning differences, ADD/ADHD, and early childhood developmental delays. The school combines academics with a robust extracurricular program including sports (basketball, bowling, swimming, track and field, wrestling, and cheering) and summer school options to ensure students build skills, confidence, and community both in and outside the classroom.
Founded in 1831, NYISE is a nonsectarian institution and member of the National Association of Private Special Education Centers. Enrollment is open year-round with rolling admissions; contact Admissions Associate Lois Dougan at (718) 519-7000 or visit nyise.org for more information.
