The Koonings Center is a specialized program within NewBridge School designed for students in grades 1-8 who need intensive academic and social support. Founded in 2013, the center serves students with learning differences including dyslexia, ADHD, auditory processing disorders, autism, executive function challenges, and memory difficulties. The program emphasizes compassion and strategic instruction to help students build the skills needed to transition into mainstream classrooms.
Students benefit from small class sizes of just 4-6 students, supported by highly qualified Education Specialists, instructional assistants, and embedded Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists. While the center has its own dedicated classroom space, students also participate in shared activities like art, social skills instruction, PE, lunch, recess, and field trips with their peers at NewBridge, fostering meaningful connections and a sense of community.
The Koonings Center provides a nurturing co-ed learning environment with a casual dress code and nonsectarian values. Annual tuition is $32,000, with rolling admissions overseen by Admissions Director Sarah Dyer. A summer program is also offered for $3,000 to provide continued support and enrichment. Located in Poway, California, the center equips students with both academic foundations and social-emotional skills essential for long-term success.
