The Shefa School

The Shefa School is a pluralistic Jewish community day school in Manhattan serving 230 students in grades K-8 with language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia. Designed for children with average to above-average intelligence who struggle in traditional classrooms, the school provides research-based instruction within a supportive Jewish framework. The curriculum integrates rigorous general studies—math, science, social studies, and literacy—with Jewish studies and Hebrew language.

With an exceptionally low 3:1 student-teacher ratio, the school ensures tailored small-group instruction. Therapeutic services are integrated directly into the classroom and curriculum, with a faculty including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and social workers. During "chug" (enrichment) periods, students receive targeted language therapy, occupational therapy, or social skills intervention alongside activities like cooking, Lego, dance, and yoga.

Shefa focuses on preparing students to transition to mainstream schools. For the 2025-26 school year, tuition is $88,500, with financial aid available. The school also operates The Shefa Center, a resource for educators supporting diverse learners.
