Camp Chai

Isabella, MinnesotaDay Camp

Camp Buckskin is an overnight summer camp located in Isabella, MN, that is dedicated to providing specialized services for boys and girls ages 6-18 who are experiencing academic and/or social skill difficulties. The camp caters to children with AD/HD, learning disabilities, Aspergers, and similar needs, with a focus on those with average to well above average intelligence who simply need extra help and support to reach their full potential.

Since its establishment in 1959, Camp Buckskin has helped over 8,000 children benefit from their therapeutic program, leading to significant personal growth and improvement, as reported by parents, teachers, and other involved professionals. The camp utilizes the summer to help youth stay focused, gain knowledge and skills, and improve existing abilities, which in turn helps with transitioning to the new school year and overall happiness and success.

One of the unique aspects of the camp is the Personal Growth program, where parents select several social skill goals for their child to work on. Campers receive instruction in a mix of traditional camp and academic activities each day, as they acquire knowledge and demonstrate skills, and progress through various levels in each activity while being recognized for their achievements. The camp also focuses on improving peer relations, interpersonal communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a variety of related skills, with daily evaluations and written reports for parents to track progress.

With a consistent approach that supplements the efforts of home and school, Camp Buckskin aims to help children overcome hurdles and make significant progress in their personal and academic development. The camp is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) and invites families to consider how it can help their child now and in the future.
