Camp Colby

Camp Colby is a co-educational environmental education camp located on the western shore of Lake Colby near Saranac Lake, NY, specifically designed for youth ages 11 to 13. As part of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Summer Environmental Education Camp Program, the camp provides a structured, nature-based setting that fosters discovery and personal growth through hands-on learning.

The camp experience is centered around a discovery group curriculum where campers complete six specialized lessons, including group dynamics, forest and pond explorations, and studying human impact. These activities are designed to build social skills and environmental awareness through science, journaling, and nature observation. To complement the curriculum, campers can participate in optional outdoor pursuits such as archery, canoeing, fishing, and overnight camping trips, all of which are supervised by college-educated counselors trained to encourage participation and respect among all group members.

Camp Colby offers an overnight stay in a beautiful, natural environment that promotes independence and connection to the earth.
