Camp DeBruce

Camp DeBruce is a co-educational environmental education camp located in Sullivan County, NY, specifically designed for youth aged 11 to 13. Situated on 300 acres adjacent to the Catskill Forest Preserve, the camp provides a structured, hands-on learning environment. The program focuses on discovery groups where campers engage in six specialized lessons, ranging from group dynamics to field and forest explorations, helping them understand the interconnectedness of life through direct interaction with nature.

The camp experience is led by college-educated counselor staff who are trained to guide activities, encourage social participation, and foster respect among group members. This supportive supervision is ideal for middle-school-aged children developing social skills and independence. Beyond the core curriculum, campers can participate in optional outdoor pursuits such as fly fishing, canoeing on the Delaware River, hiking, and exploring local bogs and waterfalls, providing various ways to engage with the natural world.

As part of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Summer Environmental Education Camp Program, Camp DeBruce offers a safe, supervised, and educational overnight experience. The camp's curriculum emphasizes science, problem-solving, and journaling, making it a meaningful opportunity for students to build confidence and friendship in a natural, outdoor setting.
