Camp Granada - ADA

Camp Granada is a specialized residential camp in Monticello, IL, dedicated to providing children with diabetes a safe, supervised, and medically secure environment. For 36 years, the camp has offered a unique space where campers can connect with peers facing similar challenges, fostering a sense of community and shared identity while participating in traditional camp activities like swimming, canoeing, and dancing.

The program focuses on empowering campers to manage their diabetes independently through hands-on learning. While enjoying recreational activities, campers practice essential daily skills such as calculating insulin dosages, counting carbohydrates, and administering their own injections. This approach helps build confidence and coping strategies that are vital for managing the condition outside of camp.

Safety is the highest priority, with a full medical team—including physicians, nurses, and dietitians specializing in diabetes care—available on-site 24 hours a day. Campers are organized into cabins based on age and gender to ensure a supportive and age-appropriate social environment. The camp is ACA accredited and operated in affiliation with the American Diabetes Association.
