Camp Heartland

Camp Buckskin is an overnight summer camp located in Isabella, MN, that specializes in serving boys and girls ages 6-18 who are experiencing academic and/or social skill difficulties. The camp caters to children with AD/HD, Learning Disabilities, Aspergers, and similar needs, with a focus on supporting those with average to well above average intelligence. Since 1959, Camp Buckskin has helped more than 8,000 children through their therapeutic program, providing personal growth and improvement as reported by parents, teachers, and other professionals.

The camp's program effectively utilizes the summer to help youth stay focused, gain knowledge, and improve existing abilities, which in turn helps with the transition to the new school year and overall happiness and success. The campers receive instruction in a mix of traditional camp and academic activities each day, progressing through various levels and being recognized for their achievements. Additionally, the camp features a Personal Growth program focusing on social skill goals, interpersonal communication, problem solving, and other related skills.

Camp Buckskin's approach is consistent with those of the parents and teachers, and the camp provides written reports and insights to help parents continue the progress made at camp. The camp aims to strengthen the self-concept of the campers and help them make progress in their peer relations, emphasizing the importance of making and maintaining friendships. With a focus on providing support and guidance, Camp Buckskin invites families to consider how the camp can help their child now and for many years to come.
