Camp Kirk

Camp Buckskin is a specialized overnight summer camp located in Isabella, MN. With a focus on serving boys and girls ages 6-18 who are experiencing academic and/or social skill difficulties, the camp provides a unique and supportive environment for campers with AD/HD, Learning Disabilities, Aspergers, and similar needs.

The camp's program is designed to help campers convert their potential into abilities by providing them with the extra help and support they need. The majority of the campers have average to well above average intelligence, and the camp aims to help them become more self-aware, particularly in understanding how their words and actions impact others.

Since its establishment in 1959, Camp Buckskin has helped over 8,000 children through its therapeutic program, with a focus on personal growth and improvement. The camp's approach aims to supplement the efforts of the home and school, ensuring consistency in their approach with parents and teachers.

The camp's program operates on two levels, combining traditional camp activities with academic activities. Campers receive instruction across various activities and are recognized for their achievements as they progress through the levels. In addition, the camp implements a Personal Growth program where campers work on social skill goals selected by their parents, helping them improve interpersonal communication and problem-solving abilities.

At Camp Buckskin, the focus is not only on academic and social skill development but also on creating a supportive and nurturing environment for the campers. The camp's efforts are reflected in the written reports provided to parents, along with insights and observations to help them continue the progress made at camp.
