Camp Kodiak

Isabella, MinnesotaOvernight Camp

Camp Buckskin is an overnight summer camp located in Isabella, MN that specializes in providing a therapeutic program for boys and girls ages 6-18 who are experiencing academic and/or social skill difficulties, particularly those with AD/HD, Learning Disabilities, Aspergers or similar needs. The campers have average to well above average intelligence, and are in need of extra help and support to develop their potential into abilities. The program has been in operation since 1959, benefiting over 8,000 children, and has been reported to have contributed to personal growth and improvement in the campers by their parents, teachers, and other professionals.

The Camp Buckskin program focuses on helping youth stay focused, gain knowledge and skills, and improve existing abilities during the summer, leading to a smoother transition to the new school year. The camp provides a mix of traditional camp activities and academic instruction, allowing the campers to progress through various levels and receive recognition for their achievements. In addition to the visible part of the program, there is a Personal Growth program that addresses social skill goals selected by parents. These learning opportunities occur throughout the day and help campers improve their peer relations, interpersonal communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and related skills. The results are recorded and shared with the parents in a written report, along with insights and observations to help the child continue their progress at home.

As a supplement, Camp Buckskin's approach is consistent with that of parents and teachers, aiming to help the campers become happier and more successful in the long run. The camp has been accredited by the ACA and offers a supportive and nurturing environment for children with special needs, providing them with the tools and skills necessary for personal growth and improved social interactions.
