Camp Lakey Gap

Camp Lakey Gap is a specialized residential camp in Black Mountain, NC, designed specifically for campers with autism and related communication disabilities. The program serves all ability levels, providing a positive and loving environment where campers can grow emotionally and socially. Through well-trained staff support, campers are empowered to take on leadership roles, experience social success, and build confidence by trying new things.

The camp offers a wide variety of inclusive activities tailored to each camper's unique interests and sensory needs. Programs include arts and crafts, hiking, swimming, canoeing, music, and outdoor games. The staff excels at integrating individual passions—whether it be insects, outer space, or specific characters like Star Wars or Pokemon—into the camp experience to ensure every child can engage with the environment in their own way.

To ensure a safe and supportive setting, campers must have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder or a related communication disability, with behaviors and healthcare needs that fall within the staff's training capabilities. Please note that guardians must live, be vacationing, or have an emergency contact person within an 8-hour radius of Black Mountain. Weekly sessions are available, with costs starting over $2,000 per week.
