Camp Buckskin is an overnight summer camp that specializes in serving boys and girls ages 6-18 who are experiencing academic and/or social skill difficulties. The majority of their campers have AD/HD, Learning Disabilities, Aspergers or similar needs, yet they possess average to well above average intelligence and a world of untapped potential in many areas. The program aims to provide extra help and support to convert their potentials into abilities.
Since their start in 1959, Camp Buckskin has helped more than 8,000 children benefit from their therapeutic program. The camp effectively utilizes the summer to help youth stay focused, gain knowledge, skills, and improve existing abilities for a smoother transition to the new school year, making the campers happier and more successful.
The camp offers a mix of traditional camp and academic activities each day, allowing campers to progress through various levels and be recognized for their achievements. In addition to these activities, the camp also focuses on a Personal Growth program where parents select several social skill goals for their child to work on. These goals are addressed and evaluated daily, recorded, and provided to parents in a written report after camp, along with insights and observations to better help their child continue the progress made at camp.
Camp Buckskin's approach is consistent with those of parents and teachers, supplementing their efforts at home and school. The program not only focuses on academic and social skill development but also aims to strengthen the campers' self-concept and peer relations, as making and maintaining friendships is crucial. The camp provides a supportive and inclusive environment where campers can overcome hurdles through effort and practice, ultimately helping them now and for many years to come.
With a focus on providing extra help and support for children with academic and social skill difficulties, Camp Buckskin is an excellent option for parents looking to help their child thrive and succeed.
