Camp UKANDU is an ACA-accredited overnight camp in Gresham, OR, providing no-cost experiences for children with cancer and their siblings.
Camp UKANDU provides a joyful, "outrageously fun" overnight camp experience specifically designed for children living with cancer, their siblings, and their families. Serving youth between the ages of 8 and 18, the program is inclusive of both patients currently on treatment and those who have completed treatment, as well as siblings of patients. The camp's mission is to provide a space where every child can simply focus on being a kid, away from the stresses of medical challenges.
Safety and specialized care are central to the camp experience. A vital volunteer medical team—comprised of doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, and social workers from Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel and Doernbecher Children's Hospital at OHSU—is on-site to support children currently undergoing treatment. This professional medical presence ensures that campers can participate in all activities safely and confidently.
The camp operates as an ACA-accredited, independent non-profit, with a primary goal of providing programs at no cost to the families served. The camp's success relies on a dedicated network of over 80 volunteers, including counselors and program staff, who work year-round to create a supportive and magical environment for all participants.
