Camp WorldLight

Isabella, MinnesotaOvernight Camp

Camp Buckskin, located in Isabella, MN, is an overnight summer camp specifically designed to serve boys and girls ages 6-18 who are experiencing academic and/or social skill difficulties. The camp specializes in catering to individuals with AD/HD, Learning Disabilities, Aspergers, and similar needs while also providing a nurturing environment for children with average to well above average intelligence.

Founded in 1959, Camp Buckskin has helped more than 8,000 children benefit from their therapeutic program. The camp's focus is on helping youth stay focused, gain knowledge and skills, and improve existing abilities while having fun in a traditional camp setting. In addition to traditional camp activities, the program includes academic activities and a Personal Growth program that focuses on helping campers improve their peer relations, interpersonal communication skills, and problem-solving abilities.

The camp's approach is consistent with those of the parents and teachers, and it effectively utilizes the summer to help campers make progress in both tangible and intangible areas of personal growth. The campers receive instruction in a mix of traditional camp and academic activities each day, progress through various levels in each activity, and are recognized for their achievements. The Personal Growth aspect of the program is less visible but equally important, allowing campers to work on social skill goals selected by their parents through teachable moments throughout the day.

Parents receive a written report of their child's progress at camp, including insights and observations from the camp staff to better help their child continue the progress made at camp. The camp's comprehensive and holistic approach helps children make strides not only academically but also in building self-confidence, improving peer relations, and developing important life skills.

Aspiring to help children now and for many years to come, Camp Buckskin invites parents to consider how their program can support the growth and development of children with special needs.
