Canoe Island French Camp

Canoe Island French Camp offers a unique, immersive summer experience in the San Juan Islands for campers aged 9-16. This ACA-accredited overnight camp blends French language and culture with a wide variety of outdoor and artistic activities. The program is designed to foster increased independence, self-awareness, and social connections in a supportive, small-group environment.

The camp utilizes a highly structured yet flexible model to ensure every child feels comfortable and engaged. Campers stay in tipis with a very low ratio of only 4-5 campers per counselor, allowing for personalized attention. While French language classes are arranged by ability—and beginning speakers are warmly welcomed—the camp uses a mix of French and English to ensure accessibility. Activities are student-led, offering choices such as kayaking, sailing, archery, rock climbing, art, and theater, which helps campers build confidence through autonomy.

Beyond language learning, the camp focuses on sensory and social development through evening campfires, beach activities, and group games. For families looking to introduce their children to the camp environment, short four-day sessions are available during Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. The camp is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing a rich, multicultural experience.
