Carnegie Mellon Pre-College Programs

The Carnegie Mellon Pre-College Program provides a 6-week academic and residential experience for rising 11th and 12th graders (ages 16-18). Students engage in rigorous, college-level coursework through six specialized tracks: Art & Design, Architecture, Drama, Music, National High School Game Academy, and APEA. This program serves as a condensed college semester, allowing students to test interests and build academic confidence in a structured university setting.

The program offers a supervised environment where students learn to navigate classroom dynamics, interact with professors, and manage the responsibilities of living with a roommate. This immersive experience is designed to build independence and prepare for the social and academic transitions of higher education. Beyond academics, the program includes organized, supervised weekend events in Pittsburgh. While the curriculum is demanding, the program emphasizes community building through evening activities and social opportunities that foster connections with global peers. Participants gain a significant sense of accomplishment and a clearer understanding of their future college needs.
