Florida Diabetes Camp

Florida Diabetes Camp (FCCYD) provides a specialized, supportive environment for children and youth living with Type 1 diabetes. Established in 1970, this non-profit organization offers much more than traditional recreation; it focuses on empowering campers through diabetes management education and psychological support. Programs are designed to foster independence in self-care, build self-esteem, and provide a community of peers facing similar challenges.

The camp experience is highly medicalized and safe, featuring scheduled education sessions led by pediatric endocrinologists and diabetes educators. With a dedicated team of over 200 volunteers—including physicians, nurses, dieticians, and psychologists—the camp manages a high volume of medical needs, including insulin administration and blood sugar monitoring, ensuring that every child can participate fully in activities. Programs include overnight stays, day camps, and Family Weekends.

Headquartered in Gainesville, the camp serves families across Florida through various sessions, including Bring-A-Friend weekends. The organization is committed to accessibility, with a long-standing policy that all children can attend regardless of their family's financial situation. As an ACA-accredited, independent non-profit, the camp relies on donations and sponsorships to cover the costs of essential diabetes supplies and programming.
