Green River Preserve is a non-competitive, co-ed summer camp in the mountains of North Carolina, designed to be a safe and comfortable place both physically and emotionally. Serving rising 2nd through 9th graders with 1, 2, and 3-week overnight sessions, the camp provides a nurturing environment for bright, curious, and creative children. For older campers, including rising 9th graders through college freshmen, the program offers specialized leadership and service expedition trips.
The camp focuses on fostering self-discovery and life skills through a wide variety of sensory and hands-on activities. Campers can engage in outdoor adventures like hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, fly fishing, and archery, as well as creative outlets such as music, pottery, theater, woodworking, and painting. This diverse programming is ideal for children who benefit from varied, engaging, and low-pressure learning experiences.
Safety and mentorship are central to the Green River Preserve experience. Staff members are personally interviewed by the directors and selected for their maturity, sensitivity, and integrity to serve as positive role models. As an ACA-accredited, non-profit organization, the camp is committed to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices, helping young people develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
