Camp Buckskin is an overnight summer camp located in Isabella, MN, that specializes in serving boys and girls ages 6-18 who are experiencing academic and/or social skill difficulties. The majority of campers have AD/HD, Learning Disabilities, Aspergers, or similar needs but have average to well above average intelligence and a world of potential in many areas that has yet to be developed. The camp provides extra help and support to help convert their potentials into abilities, focusing on self-awareness and peer relations.
Since its start in 1959, Camp Buckskin has benefited over 8,000 children through its therapeutic program, helping them experience personal growth and improvement as reported by their parents, teachers, and other involved professionals. The camp effectively utilizes the summer to help campers stay focused, gain knowledge and skills, and improve existing abilities, resulting in a smoother transition to the new school year and overall increased happiness and success.
The camp's program works on two levels: traditional camp and academic activities, as well as a Personal Growth program where campers work on social skill goals determined by their parents. This approach helps campers improve their peer relations, interpersonal communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and related skills, which are addressed, evaluated, and recorded daily, with results provided to parents in a written report.
Accredited by the ACA, Camp Buckskin offers a unique and valuable experience for children with special needs to develop their fullest potential and overcome hurdles with extra effort and practice, ultimately helping them now and for many years to come.
