Isabella, MinnesotaOvernight Camp

Camp Buckskin, located in Isabella, MN, is a specialized overnight summer camp for boys and girls ages 6-18 who are experiencing academic and/or social skill difficulties. The camp caters to children with AD/HD, learning disabilities, Asperger's, and similar needs, all of whom have average to well above average intelligence and untapped potential in various areas. The camp's therapeutic program has been in operation since 1959, benefiting over 8,000 children, and has received accreditation from the ACA.

The program at Camp Buckskin aims to help campers not only academically but also socially, focusing on improving their peer relations, interpersonal communication skills, and problem-solving abilities. The campers engage in a mix of traditional camp activities and some academic programs, where they receive recognition for their achievements as they progress through various levels. In addition, the camp provides a Personal Growth program, allowing parents to select specific social skill goals for their child to work on, which are addressed and evaluated on a daily basis and included in a written report provided to the parents post-camp.

The camp's approach is consistent with that of parents and teachers, aiming to supplement their efforts by providing a supportive and nurturing environment for the campers. The program has proven effective in helping children stay focused, gain knowledge, and develop new skills, leading to personal growth and improvement as reported by parents, teachers, and other professionals involved in the campers' lives.

Camp Buckskin's holistic approach and dedication to the growth and development of children with special needs make it an ideal choice for families seeking a supportive and enriching summer camp experience. With a focus on creating a smoother transition to the new school year and ultimately helping children become happier and more successful, Camp Buckskin stands out as an invaluable resource for the special needs community.
