Isabella, MinnesotaOvernight Camp

Camp Buckskin is an overnight summer camp in Isabella, MN, that specializes in serving boys and girls ages 6-18 who are experiencing academic and/or social skill difficulties. The majority of campers have AD/HD, Learning Disabilities, Aspergers, or similar needs, and have average to well above average intelligence. The camp aims to help these campers develop their potential into abilities through extra help and support.

Since 1959, Camp Buckskin has helped over 8,000 children benefit from their therapeutic program, resulting in personal growth and improvement as reported by parents, teachers, and other professionals. The camp effectively utilizes the summer to help youth stay focused, gain knowledge and skills, and improve existing abilities, leading to a smoother transition to the new school year and overall happiness and success.

The camp program works on two levels, with a mix of traditional camp and academic activities during the day. In addition to traditional camp activities, the camp focuses on a Personal Growth program where campers work on social skill goals set by their parents, improving peer relations, interpersonal communication skills, and problem-solving abilities.

Parents receive a written report and insights about their child's progress at camp, which can help them continue the progress made at camp. Camp Buckskin not only helps campers achieve tangible successes but also focuses on building a strengthened self-concept and making progress in peer relations, a vital aspect of a child's development.

The camp is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) and provides a supportive and inclusive environment for children with special needs. Camp Buckskin's dedication to helping children with academic and social difficulties make it a valuable resource for families looking to support their child's growth and development.
