Texas Lions Camp, Inc

Isabella, MinnesotaOvernight Camp

Camp Buckskin is an overnight summer camp located in Isabella, MN that provides specialized support for boys and girls ages 6-18 who are facing academic and/or social skill challenges. Many of the campers have AD/HD, Learning Disabilities, Aspergers, or similar needs, but they also have average to well above average intelligence, with untapped potential. The camp's focus is on providing them with the extra help and support they need to develop their abilities and self-awareness.

Since its establishment in 1959, Camp Buckskin has helped over 8,000 children through its therapeutic program, leading to significant personal growth and improvement as reported by parents, teachers, and other professionals involved in the campers' lives.

The summer program at Buckskin involves a mix of traditional camp activities and academic instruction, allowing campers to gain knowledge, skills, and recognition for their achievements. Additionally, the camp offers a Personal Growth program that targets social skills and interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and other related areas of development. These areas are addressed, evaluated, and recorded daily, with parents receiving a comprehensive written report and insights to help their child continue the progress made at camp.

As an inclusive camp, Camp Buckskin works to supplement the efforts of parents and teachers, providing a consistent approach to help campers transition smoothly into the new school year and improve their overall well-being and success. In addition to academic and social skill development, the camp also focuses on strengthening the campers' self-concept and helping them make progress in their peer relations, recognizing the importance of making and maintaining friendships.

Camp Buckskin follows the American Camp Association's (ACA) accreditations, ensuring a high standard of quality and safety for its campers. The camp's dedication to personalized support, skill development, and personal growth makes it an ideal environment for children with special needs to thrive and reach their full potential.
