Camp Buckskin is an overnight summer camp located in Isabella, MN, that caters to boys and girls between the ages of 6-18 who are facing academic and/or social skill difficulties. The camp specializes in serving individuals with AD/HD, Learning Disabilities, Asperger's, and similar needs, who possess average to well above average intelligence. The primary focus of the camp is to help these campers develop their potential in various areas, with the support and guidance they need.
Since its establishment in 1959, Camp Buckskin has benefited over 8,000 children through its therapeutic program. The camp's approach effectively utilizes the summer to help campers not only stay focused, but also gain knowledge and skills while improving existing abilities. This ultimately helps them to make a smoother transition to the new school year and leads to increased happiness and success.
The camp's program is designed to work on two levels - traditional camp and academic activities, as well as a Personal Growth program where campers work on social skill goals to improve their peer relations, interpersonal communication skills, and problem-solving abilities. These areas are addressed, evaluated, and recorded daily, and the results are shared with parents in a written report after camp. Additionally, the camp provides insights and observations to help parents continue the progress made at camp.
With a focus on providing additional support to children who require extra help and practice to overcome hurdles, Camp Buckskin invites families to consider how their program can help their child now and for years to come. The camp's dedication to addressing the specific needs of children with academic and social skill difficulties can greatly benefit the special needs community.
