Camp Buckskin is a specialized overnight summer camp located in Isabella, MN, catering to boys and girls ages 6-18 who are facing academic and/or social skill difficulties. With a focus on serving those with AD/HD, Learning Disabilities, Aspergers, and similar needs, the camp provides a supportive environment for campers with average to well above average intelligence, helping them to develop their untapped potential.
Since its establishment in 1959, Camp Buckskin has assisted over 8,000 children through its therapeutic program, leading to significant personal growth and improvement as reported by parents, teachers, and other professionals. The program effectively utilizes the summer to help youth stay focused, gain knowledge and skills, and make a smoother transition to the new school year, ultimately leading to increased happiness and success.
At Camp Buckskin, campers receive instruction in a mix of traditional camp activities and academic pursuits each day. Additionally, the camp offers a Personal Growth program to help campers improve their social skill goals, interpersonal communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and other related skills. These areas are addressed, evaluated daily, and recorded, with the results provided to parents in a written report after camp.
As a supplementary effort, the camp shares insights and observations with parents so they can further support their child's progress made at camp. The aim is to strengthen the self-concept resulting from successes in the program and to assist in making progress in peer relations, which is crucial for making and maintaining friendships. Camp Buckskin is dedicated to helping children overcome hurdles, and invites families to consider the long-term benefits the camp can provide for their children.
With a focus on creating a supportive and inclusive environment, Camp Buckskin has a lot to offer for children with special needs, and is an accredited member of the American Camp Association (ACA)
